A Seafront Celebration of All Things Wheels
The Wheels Festival returned to Great Yarmouth on June 29th and 30th, 2024, transforming the iconic Golden Mile of Great Yarmouth into a vibrant showcase of cars, bikes, and family fun. Organised for the first time by the Tourist Board, 'Visit Great Yarmouth'. This event proved to be a roaring success, drawing over 60,000 attendees to its dynamic mix of classic vehicles, adrenaline-pumping stunts, and seaside attractions making it the busiest Saturday the Sea Front has seen is six years.
Spectacles That Stole the Show
The entertainment was nothing short of spectacular. The Ken Fox Hell Riders delivered jaw-dropping performances on their iconic Indian Scout motorcycles, racing on a 20ft vertical Wall of Death with heart-pounding speed. Stannage International Stunt Team, Guinness World Record holders, wowed audiences with daring fire and freefall stunts, showcasing their expertise in a thrilling family-run act.
New for 2024 was the comedic genius of Titan the Robot, an 8ft-tall crowd favourite known for its Britain’s Got Talent fame. Children and adults alike were mesmerised as Titan rolled into the show, offering many a laughter and awe with its futuristic performance; photoshoot in the end included!
On top of that, Roger Blighty’s quirky bike-plane hybrid added a playful touch, while a display of historic aeroplane engines brought history enthusiasts into the fold. A Formula One simulator and an impressive array of custom motorcycles rounded out the action-packed programme - there truly was something for everyone.
Dining and Discoveries Along the Golden Mile
Between catching the dazzling stunts and admiring the cars, Tony and I made time to savour some of Great Yarmouth’s finest seaside offerings. We stopped for a delicious seafood lunch at HMS Hinchinbrook and enjoyed a refreshment at the nostalgic Christopher's at the Merrivale Model Village, where the vintage penny arcade games left us impressed to say the least - we are two retro game fans here and it can't get retro enough for us and we'd say they are a 'must see' on anyone's visitors tick list. These local gems added an extra layer of charm to the festival, making it an unforgettable weekend.
Wheels, Weather, and What’s Next
Sunday brought slightly cloudier and slightly rainy skies but didn’t dampen the excitement in the least. The day focused on the Show and Shine competition, where proud owners competing for various awards. As the weekend came to a close, we couldn’t help but reflect on the joy of being part of such a vibrant community celebration. We weren't there for the Show and Shine awards as we were still caught up with all the display cars. We don't have enough space to put all of them up when they all have deserved a space.
Great Yarmouth’s iconic Golden Mile for the Wheels Festival 2024 was a dazzling celebration of cars, stunts, and seaside charm in our books and we are glad we turned up!
With that, we can say that the Great Yarmouth Wheels Festival exceeded all expectations, both in attendance and energy, with 2024 marking a expectation smashing year. Plans for 2025 (June 21st-22nd) are already in motion, and we’re thrilled to pencil it into our calendar. For anyone who loves cars, bikes, and a fun-filled seaside experience, this is an event not to miss.
