The NSRA Fun on the Beach 2024 brought vibrant energy to the historic seafront of Great Yarmouth on the 13th and 14th of July. This much-loved NSRA event combined the charm of pre-1972 Hot Rods, Customs, and American Classics with the timeless appeal of a beautiful example of a British seaside town.  From live music and vibrant displays to thrilling car cruises and a dazzling Show and Shine competition, Fun on the Beach offered an unforgettable weekend for both enthusiasts and casual visitors.

Marine Parade: The Beating Heart of Great Yarmouth

The event was perfectly situated along the Marine Parade, the Golden Mile of Great Yarmouth’s iconic stretch featuring amusements, restaurants, and stunning beach views.  At its heart stood the Joyland American Family Diner, a retro hub that became a focal point for attendees.  With classic cars gleaming under the partially covered sky and crowds mingling amid the sounds of live music, the atmosphere was elated.

We arrived a little early ourselves, so before the event kicked into full gear, we grabbed a coffee at Christopher’s Café, a local favourite directly opposite Joyland. It provided the perfect spot to watch the arriving vehicles and soak in the growing excitement.  By mid-morning, the Anchor Gardens at the beach front of Great Yarmouth, had transformed into an open-air showroom, boasting some of the finest Hot Rods, American Classics and Custom Cars we had seen in a while.

Live Music, Cruise Culture, and Car Enthusiasts

Saturday’s highlight was the vibrant roll-out of Hot Rods around 4 PM, where owners took to the coastal roads for a scenic cruise, concluding at The Smokehouse.  This exclusive gathering offered an evening meal among NHRS Members, live entertainment, and a laid-back atmosphere to celebrate the shared love for automotive artistry.

The NSRA team deserves special recognition for their seamless organisation, which balanced open access for casual visitors with the more intimate, community-driven aspects of the weekend.  Whether you’re a die-hard Hot Rod enthusiast or simply curious, the event truly welcomes everyone into its world.

Show and Shine: A Celebration of Craftsmanship

Sunday brought another spectacle: the Show and Shine competition. From 9 AM, cars competed in various categories, showcasing their craftsmanship and customisation. Awards were handed out by Keith Elliott (Roasty), alongside members of the NSRA UK board, celebrating the creativity and dedication of the car owners.

For attendees, the fun didn’t stop there. Joyland provided a central hub for family fun, while the nearby Golden Mile offered plenty of attractions, including adventure golf, amusements, and coastal eateries.

For a quieter escape, stroll through the Anchor Gardens or explore the area’s historic landmarks along the Beach Front, you wont want to miss it.

Final Thoughts

The NSRA Fun on the Beach combines a not to be missed nostalgia of classic car culture with the quintessential charm of a seaside town. It’s not just an event; it’s a community gathering, a celebration of craftsmanship, a testament to the enduring appeal of custom car culture and all round a well worth weekend away from home.
